A joint laboratory, founded 2012

Identity

The laboratory's full name is the Joint Research Laboratory on the Use of Cloud Technologies in Education — in Ukrainian, Спільна науково-дослідна лабораторія з питань використання хмарних технологій в освіті. It was established by decision of the Academic Council of Kryvyi Rih National University, protocol No. 5 of 26 October 2012, as a joint undertaking with the Institute of Information Technologies and Learning Tools of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.

Both founding partners have since been renamed or restructured: the institute is now the Institute for Digitalisation of Education, whose Department of Cloud-Oriented Systems and Artificial Intelligence in Education is our direct counterpart, and the university partner is the Department of Modeling and Software Engineering at Kryvyi Rih National University. The laboratory is hosted by the Academy of Cognitive and Natural Sciences, and most of its members hold appointments at the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics of Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University.

Mission

The founding charter sets five tasks, which still describe the work:

1. coordinate research on the use of cloud technologies in education across the partner institutions and the wider Ukrainian research community;
2. develop, pilot, deploy experimentally and evaluate cloud information and communication technologies and learning tools;
3. carry out funded research directly, under the partners' research plans;
4. prepare and publish the scientific results of that work;
5. organise and take part in international and national conferences and seminars.

Governance

The laboratory works to an agreed annual plan. Research is carried out by faculty, doctoral researchers and students of the partner institutions under their individual research plans. Interim and final results are discussed at laboratory meetings and reported to the partners' academic councils.
